What we've been up to...

Yeah I've been absent lately...sorry.  We have been tied up with the house.

We got CO on Tuesday!!  Oh my gosh guys I seriously wasn't expecting it.  We have some minor things to finish but we get to move in and start enjoying all of the hard work.  It will be a slow move as we will still have things at our current residence while we complete the tasks there.

Good news is that now I will have much more time on my hands to work on my furniture projects.

Today I was there all day because we had our new couches, beds & rug delivered.  I've been trying to figure out a chair option for the living room.  We bought the leather couch but wanted a chair for additional seating.  I was killing myself over this decision.  I just couldn't find a chair that I loved at a reasonable price.  Well today problem solved...  When the guys brought the couches (both are the same) guess what happened???? The couch that was to go upstairs wouldn't fit through the rather large stairway.  WHAT?!?!  I almost had a panic attack.  They guy says well what are you going to do?  I said well I guess we will have 2 couches in the living area.  And, you know what?  I love it!  It is such a large open area & it really provides some great seating for many guests (which I LOVE).

I am sitting on one and look at that view.  The other one is facing the fireplace & the TV will be mounted above fireplace.  Sorry for the crappy phone picture.  The couches are cramped up right now because I had them on the rug since I don't have felt on the feet of the couches and don't want to scratch the floor.  I honestly love this layout and so happy it worked out.

I also put the girls room partly together.  How cute is this?

I need a rug for them.  Those bunnies I got at Home Goods and they are burlap....so adorable.  I will be doing headboards for them once I can find ones I like.  In the cubby I purchased a little cedar chest that has a bottom drawer that I need to redo.  Such a cute little girls room.

I can't wait to show off every room as it is finished.  I think I will try to do a blog with a tour & paint colors.  What do you think?

It is all finally coming together....and I couldn't be more ready or excited :)

With much love, peace & happiness!

A short break...

I had to take & give myself a break on Thursday.  I am almost done painting at the house, but I just felt I needed the day.

I had a little belly ache, but I think it's just because I am running myself ragged.  I painted for a little while Thursday and then we took the girls to their favorite pizza place for dinner.  And, then like any romantic couple we stopped & purchased our new beds.

We have scheduled the CO for Tuesday.  This is just a preliminary to get a checklist for a final.  We have been working hard on a few final details.  It is hard on the girls because there is only so much for them to do while we are there.

The railings on the deck are completely finished & they look absolutely amazing.

I started giving my door its makeover.

This baby is so beautiful, but it has layer after layer of paint.  I sanded until I just couldn't sand anymore.  My arms are sore.  It also needs a little fixing on the bottom where there is a little wood rot.

The different layers proved to be a different color.  At one point it was a red, dark blue & then light blue.  I can't wait to see how it is going to come out.

Since the whole kitchen, dining room & living room area is all one open space the door will be a focal point. I am using the rug in the living area to add some color since there are so much brown/neutral color.  This is the rug we got for the living area.

The second picture you can really see all the color.  So with that being said... I will be painting the door with a pop of color from the rug.

Oh I am so excited..... I can't wait to see the outcome :)

I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend!!!

With much love, peace & happiness

Shopping & love

Oh we are getting so very close.  My house is full of packed up boxes.

Last night I made smothered pork cutlets. I breaded the thin sliced pork cutlets & pan fried them in a little olive oil.  I set them aside.  There was just a tiny bit of oil with the crusty bits from the breading.  I added butter a tiny bit of the flour and mixed it up.  I threw in sliced onions & mushrooms.  Once they were coated & cooked a bit, I added a little more butter, flour, light cream, white wine & a little chicken stock.  Once it becomes a nice gravy I put the fried cutlets in the gravy & turned down to low.  I let them hang out for about 15 minutes.  Oh my goodness they were to die for!! My in-laws came over to eat with us & everyone just devoured them.  I will definitely be making this little gem again.

Tuesday I spent the day furniture shopping.  We need a new couch for both living room & common area upstairs.  We wanted leather so that they'd be easy  to wipe down with the girls.  I went to a local furniture store that also has a clearance center across the street.  Normally you are getting floor samples.  I was able to get 2 couches for the price of 1.  And, the best part....they are brand new coming right from the warehouse.  Another thing I loved about this particular couch is the cushions have a zipper & you can add or take away the foam or batting material to make it more firm or softer.  I like that!!

Check out  the railings on the deck!  It is almost completely finished.... I can't wait for spring to show pictures of the back of the house.

We really wanted the cable so that we don't lose the view when sitting out on the deck or at the dining room table.

I can't believe tomorrow is Valentine's Day.  I am not big into celebrating because I like to show my love everyday.  Plus I am not a big sweets person..not much into chocolate or candy.  I do like to decorate for it when I am not knee deep in packing. But, I don't need a dedicated day to proclaim my love, but I do enjoy certain things about it...like chocolate covered strawberries :)

Cupid stopped by our house while I had Shea at ballet.  He's the best because he knows how much I love them & oh man they were (yes were) yummy!!

I made heart shaped cookies for Katie's school party tomorrow...
She was a very happy girl to see mommy making these guys.

I do hope everyone has a Happy Valentines Day!!!

Time away...

I owe you lots of pictures of some of the things we've been up to.  However I am tied up at the moment.  We worked all day Saturday & Sunday at the new house...literally from early morning to late evenings.

Saturday we spent a big portion of the morning snow blowing our way out of about 15 - 18 inches of snow so we could go work.

My husband was kind and snow blowed our elderly neighbors drive.

I have a long to do list to get us there.  Painting, getting closet systems installed, finish door hardware, painting (oh yes there's lots of that left to do), etc.  Plus I need to pack..UGH!

I sat the girls up in their room with a TV, movies, snacks, toys & blankets :)  It was mighty cozy up in there.  I tried to cuddle up & take a nap but they both shooed me away telling me if I didn't get to work we wouldn't get to move in.

Don't mind the floors...they need to be cleaned

I did get some painting done, but I still need to finish some cutting in around trim.  It is a lot of painting for one person.  On the bright side...I am almost done.  I guess it doesn't help that I changed the color in our bath & the girls (common area) bath.

We did take a break a few times to play in the snow....  The girls love it.

Me & my best friend!!

Daddy did take them to the golf course & in our backyard to sleigh ride, but I was painting & missed watching them.  Funny story... In our back we have a perfect slope.  Shea loved going down by herself & it goes down into the woods, but at the bottom there is a bit of bump.  The first time down her toboggan jumped....she went airborne.  She laughed so hard & kept going.  I so wish I could've gotten it on video :)

Girls (Common Area) Bath

We wrapped yesterday cleaning up and gathering all the trash.  The stairs had the first coat of stain today.  This means until Friday or Saturday we will not be able to go upstairs.  The carpet guy was there this morning to measure the master bedroom.  The deck stairs were built today and tomorrow railing will be started.

Weather permitting we should be well on our way to schedule CO in the next couple of weeks.  I truly couldn't be more ready.  I won't lie anxiety has crept in.  I am excited but also very worried....so please keep us in your thoughts as we move forward.

With much love, peace & happiness

I have nothing....

to bring to you today.  I did nothing but comfort my little one.  She woke up this morning not feeling so great.  I ran Katie to school, came home & decided I should take her to her doctor.  Momma's instincts were right...yet another ear infection - # 3 since Jan 11.  UGH we just can't win this battle.  Both girls...my babies.  Off to the ENT on Wednesday.  I don't like that she is now on round 3 of antibiotics each round only allowing 1 - 2 days between the next round...yeah not good.

I've had lots of questions about the vanity I just did.  The colors.  I am writing up a blog post with how I did it, what colors I used & what brands.  There was a little more that went into it.

I will be back soon as I have a few things to bring to you.  The house...oh it is nearing.  We will be going over a list on Friday of the little things to do, the deck railings will be going on next week, and the inside stairs will be getting stained.  This means we can't go in for about 4 days.  I will be spending all day tomorrow & Thursday wrapping up the painting.  I will get to go furniture shopping next week.

But for now I leave you with one of my favorite quotes  -

“What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family.”
Mother Teresa

And a recent picture...I just thought it felt peaceful!

Hot Baths...

Thank you all for the sweet comments about my friend from High School.  Her sister passed away on Jan. 22.  It has completely amazed me the strength and grace that her family has shown during this extremely difficult time.  They traveled to South Africa and was able to meet her husband for the first time.  Today was her funeral and my thoughts & prayers have consistently been with the family.  I can't even imagine the emotional roller coaster they are riding.

I have been working on a project that has been consuming my time...entirely more time than I wanted to put into it.  But, I am slightly OCD.  Remember good ole chippy?  Yeah?

He gave me lots of trouble.  Lucky I won.... Look how beautiful he turned out.  Well at least I think so :)

This will be going into the girls/common area bathroom.

When I first started the drawers were pulling a yellowish tint but the top was a nice brownish.  And, then the paint on the top started to bubble.  I had to completely sand the top and start over.  It was really humid on Wednesday...we had some nice thunderstorms move in that evening.  It all worked out in the end and I am much happier.  It is even much prettier in person.  I picked this guy up for $45 dollars & it came with a mirror.

I hope everyone has had an awesome weekend.  Will you be watching the Superbowl?  Who are you rooting for?  I love football but my team isn't playing so it's not as fun, but I still love watching the game and oh the commercials of course.

Much love, peace & happiness!!
