Antique Wavy Dresser in Green Patina - Lynn Fern

Antique Wavy Dresser in Green Patina

One of my favorite colors is green... or green patina (an almost teal/turquoise color).

I've been in love with green patina for as long as I can remember.  The color gets me every single time.  And, don't get me started on just how much I love it on something old & rusty.  That old patina with that beautiful green popping through to say "oh hello there beautiful"...Ya it grabs me!

So when I got my happy mail from General Finishes with some paint samples they sent along and Green Patina was exposed... well I seriously couldn't stop smiling.  Not sure if General Finishes is some sort of big brother watching over me, or if it was by some crazy coincidence, but they nailed it!!!

I picked up this gorgeous wavy front antique dresser a few months ago.

I instantly fell in love with it.  I had a feeling I wasn't going to be giving it up & sending it to my booth.  But, I hadn't made that final decision.  Until... I received that happy mail.

I had just pulled that dresser in that morning before getting my samples.  I had decided I needed to get it done.  The next morning I went to work on cleaning and prepping for the transformation.

The General Finishes milk paint went on like butter... so sweet and savory!

The top of the dresser is java gel stain by General Finishes.  I love how easy the gel stain is to work with, and I truly think it compliments this dresser.

I used the java gel stain and mineral spirits mix to glaze over the entire dresser to give it that time worn look.

That night as I was laying in bed drifting off to sleep my mind filled with a vision...  I knew I was going to keep the handles for now, but I would need to add 3 knobs, and honestly I was not in love with those handles.  I think this dresser was in a boys room (did ya see those sports knobs up there), the handles were well just not well thought out.  And, that's when the light bulb went off...

I got up the next morning to a phone call for yet another 2 hour delay.  So while waiting around that morning to get the girls to school I played with my metal effects by Modern Masters, Inc.

I lined everything up on a piece of canvas that had a couple of holes in it already, and primed all of the handles and knobs.

Once dry I used the bronze reactive paint.  Let one coat dry...

And, while it was still wet sprayed it with the rust activator and then the green patina..

Look at that beautiful green patina shining through... Oh my!!

Once it was all dry, I put my handles & knobs back on the dresser...

Gah... Look at how stunning the hardware looks with this color.  They truly compliment each other.

My husband said to me on the first day when I painted this..before any hardware had been put on, before any distressing or glazing took place.. "this looks like a Lynn piece"!!  He knew instantly that I wasn't turning loose of this girl!

She's mine and I am enjoying looking at her every single day!  She sits under my TV in our room for now, but once our master closet is complete she'll move to her new spot in our room!

Thank you to General Finishes for the samples you sent.  You got me...I am in love!  General Finishes had a sign up for a couple of free samples on their website.  I was not sent the samples to review, I just choose to do so because I love the paint!  It went on so smooth and dried so quickly.

I also want to send out a BIG shout out to Modern Masters..  Their metal effects are so fun to work with.  It's not the 1st time I've used them, and I really love the outcome each & every time.  Can't wait to go through my stash of things in the basement to see what else I can "patina"!

Happy Friday!  I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

With much love, peace & happiness
