Waterfall side table makeover

I stumbled upon this cute little side table at our local Habitat ReStore.  It definitely needed some TLC...

I just had no idea what it was that I wanted to do with it... It sat in my garage for months.

I brought it into my studio hoping inspiration would hit me upside the head :)

The veneer had to come off...  And, as I was peeling away I had remembered a fun poster I had picked up at Michael's one day.

It was basically the right width, I knew that much.  I might would need to trim a tad bit from it, but not much.

So...I got to work on it.  Cleaning it, and prepping it for it's new life as something a little more fun and cute.  She got a light coat of grey, then a custom teal I mixed to match the teal in the poster and then Benjamin Moore Mopboard black...

At some point during this time my husband walked into my studio.  Looking at the table a little confused, and being the brutally honest person he is... asked me what was I doing with this thing.  Well, see that poster behind the table in that picture up there... by the wall?  I held it up and said it is now going to be the new pretty little face this girl needs....

He wasn't sold... I could see it in his eyes!!

Can you see my vision?

I seriously don't know why I didn't take more between photos...  Except maybe it's because I had 5 projects going at the same time & my mind wasn't focused on pictures.

Once this girl was dry, I cut my poster where the door opened, applied the poster with mod podge.

Let me explain... When you apply with mod podge the hardest part is waiting for the next day...once it has dried.  It will bubble and scare you into thinking oh boy what did I just do.

I was nervous that day as I applied it.  It just didn't look like it was going to work totally out for the better.  I was dreading pulling that baby off and sanding it down.

But...the next morning I opened the door to my studio and she was beautiful!!

Bottom line... be patient, have faith and let it dry.

I distressed in areas to pull the custom teal paint through the black....  I scuffed her up just a bit to blend the poster in with the rest of the distressing. I then gave her a wipe down with poly and let her dry...

Once the poly was all dry, I lightly sanded it with steel wool & then completely wiped it down with some dark wax to age it just a bit.
