Hi there friends..
Have you notice the trend of dreamcatchers, feathers, and arrows this year? They seem to be making their way back into our crafting & home decor world. It's a trend I love seeing, and my daughter who is turning 9 in a few days has embraced. You can see her room makeover and all the tribal & arrows to see just how much she's embraced the trend.
Following in her momma's footsteps, she wanted to do an arts & crafts birthday party with her friends. Michaels just so happens to have a dreamcatcher craft right now.. PERFECT! Book it! This really couldn't have worked out any better.
With this in mind I had seen a craft on the Cricut Design Space under the Make It Now projects.
They were the cutest Boho Party Favor bags, and they not only look adorable but also easy.
Now you are probably looking at this and asking "is the Cricut software easy to use to create a Make It Now project"? After doing just one of them, I thought it was probably one of the more simple things to follow along.
Once you click on the "Make It Now" green button, everything comes up in your Cricut Design Space. It's all ready to cut, score & more if you choose a different project. All you need to do is click the GO button & insert the mat with the proper material. Can't get much easier than that.
You can choose to "Customize" the project. It takes you to your design space so you can make the changes you want to make. This is also very simple to do as well. I absolutely love this feature since I almost always want to make at least a minor change.
For this project I choose to customize. I did this knowing I was using a card stock that was smaller than the 12 in x 12 in. I let Katie pick out the colors she wanted to use for her party. I knew what she'd go for, but wanted to give her that choice.
I removed one of the bags out of the design space area so I could adjust the size appropriately. I was only going to be cutting one bag to each sheet of card stock anyway. This makes it easier for me to manage my design.
I made my cuts for the bags, and then moved onto the feathers & dreamcatchers.
Since I would be making 11 bags, I duplicated the feathers & dreamcatchers to cut 11 each on the different color card stock. Once you go onto the next screen to send the design to be cut (see below), you can move your design around on the mat to ensure it's within your cutting boundaries. For example, the mat shown here is a 12 in x 12 in, but my paper is 8.5 in x 11 in. I can move the feathers around to ensure that they line up inside of the 8.5 in x 11 in. The first time I used my machine I didn't know that. You can also rotate designs if you need to.
Once I had all of my materials cut, I assembled the bags. I used a glue stick to glue the tabs for the bags, and also to attach my feathers & dreamcatchers.
I used leather cord to tie the bags closed, and added a boho sticker on each bag over the top of the feathers/dreamcatchers. I made arrow tags with each girls name on them also using my Cricut using both the cut and drawing function.
This is another great feature, you don't have to remove one tool to use another. There is 2 housing units so you can do 2 tasks.
This was was truly a simple project that I loved finding in the Make It Now section. Every kid & parent admired the bags.
One of the things that I love about these bags, you can use this project over & over. Doing the project from the Make It Now was not only easy, but it saved me time of not needing to create the entire project from scratch. And, knowing I have the option to customize is pretty amazing.
